Mount Vernon Campus - Medieval Re-Enactments - Nov. 19

COMBAT DEMONSTRATIONS & MEDIEVAL RE-ENACTMENTS
by BLACK COMPANY

Don't miss this exciting demonstration about battle in the distant past!

This event will be held November 19 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Black Company is a part of an international medieval re-enactment group called the Society for Creative Anachronism, or the SCA, which has been around for a number of decades. The SCA involves non-choreographed battles and tournaments, dressing in clothes and armour that is (relatively) accurate to the medieval time period, and has many other events such as arts and crafts, bardic competitions and dance, archery, equestrian activities, merchants, etc. Its organized as a bunch of monarchies (we're in the kingdom of An Tir, which is the shire of Midhaven). Certain skills have to be attained and proven to gain ranks. Royal positions only last for a year. A few of the men in the Company are the personal guards of a Duchess (a Duke or Duchess has been King or Queen a few times). The Black Company is basically a fighting group that could be called a mercenary band. The armour we wear has to meet certain safety standards, such as adequate throat, head, chest, kidney upper spine, groin, knee and elbow protection. They make most of themselves with the help of the blacksmith who basically started the Black Company.
