Mount Vernon Campus - Kurt Dunbar: Picturing America - May 3


KURT DUNBAR SPEAKS AT
MOUNT VERNON CITY LIBRARY

Kurt Dunbar, Skagit Valley College instructor, will talk about art depicting Native Americans and Native American art, and will focus on the accuracy, appropriation and romanticization of this special artwork.

This history/art lecture and discussion will be held at the Mount Vernon City Library on Monday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome, and no sign up is required.

This event is part of a series entitled Picturing America: American History through Art.

The Mount Vernon City Library is located at 315 Snoqualmie St.

Mount Vernon Campus - Student Advising Week - May 3 to May 7

You can register for both summer and fall quarter!

Counselors and faculty advisers can help you choose courses that you need to complete your degree or certificate.

Student Advising Week will be from May 3 to 6. Counselors and advisers will be there to help from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, they will be there from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Proceed to the Admissions/Registration area of the Campus Center building.

Remember, advising can save you time, money and frustration.

Don't forget to bring your SVC Student ID number and PIN to get the advising process started.

Mount Vernon Campus - Drop-In Math Tutoring - Happening Now


SPRING QUARTER
DROP-IN MATH TUTORING

Spring quarter drop-in math tutoring starts Friday, April 2!

Drop-in math tutors will be available this quarter in both the Math Center (located in the General Use Computer Lab, F212), and the Tutoring Center (L20) at the following times:

In the Math Center — F212 (Ford Hall)
Monday & Tuesday: 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday & Thursday: 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
New late and evening hours!
Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. & 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

In the Tutoring Center — L20 (Lewis Hall)
Monday & Wednesday: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Tuesday & Thursday: 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Tutors can help with most levels of math. Some tutors can also help with chemistry, physics or biology — check with Jane Jansen in L19 for availability.

Instructors — please encourage your students to take advantage of this free service early in the quarter.

Mount Vernon Campus - Writing Tutors - Happening Now


WRITING TUTORS AVAILABLE
FOR SPRING QUARTER
Writing tutors are now available in the Tutoring Center, L-20 (Lewis Hall), to help students with English 99, 101 and 103, as well as writing assignments in other courses. The spring quarter schedule is as follows:

Monday: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Wednesday: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Thursday: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Friday: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

If possible, we ask students to sign up in advance to work with the tutor, and sign-up sheets are located in L-20. Students can also stop by during scheduled times to see if the tutor is available.

Poetry readings and book signings will be offered at the Phillip Tarro Theatre in the Spring quarter.

Readings will be offered the following tuesdays: April 13, May 4, 11, 18 and 25.

These hour events will begin at 12:30 p.m.

This is part of the Skagit River Poetry Festival in La Conner, which is held May 20 to 22.

CLUB MEETING

There will be a club meeting Tuesday, April 6 and 13 from 11:35 am to 12:30 pm at the Laura Angst Hall in Room 146.

On April 6 we will be listening to a substance abuse counselor and guest speaker.

On April 13 there will be a presentation from Skagit Valley Hospital nurses who visited and helped with medical care of earthquake victims in Haiti.
