Mount Vernon Campus - Banned Books Week at the Library

Banned Books Week

In honor of National Banned Books Week, the library is sponsoring a Trivia Contest. We will draw two winners from entries with the most correct answers for either a “Banned Book” book bag or a $10 coffee card. The contest is open to employees and students!

We also have a display of the banned books in the library with a comment sheet. It is always fascinating to read the comments about the display. It is one of the most popular displays we have each year. The comments are political, emotional, and thoughtful. Some comments from last year are: “To take away the right to freely express will only lead to a controlled environment”, “These are times when we must speak out to voice truth and reason when others have reacted out of anger and fear to ban ideas.”, “All to often Banned Books Week has been a cover for calling an act banning or censoring when it is really asking that a book be from children who are not ready for certain information…”
