Mount Vernon Campus - Superhero Dodgeball - March 04


Dress up as your favorite super hero or villain and hit 'em til it hurts!

This exciting event will be held in the gym at noon on Friday, March 4.

There will be prizes for Dodgeball Winner and Best Costume Team.

Please dress appropriately.

Mount Vernon Campus - No Pet Left Behind Fund-raiser - Happening Now


No Pet Left Behind Project is here to raise awareness of abandoned, abused, or unwanted animals within Skagit County. Our group is taking this opportunity to raise funds and donations to benefit animals in the Humane Society of Skagit County. We would like to invite you to be a part of this very important cause. Please feel free to leave any of the items mentioned on the list below in one of the boxes located on campus.

Donations needed: blankets, new or used towels, dog and cat bedding, dog and cat food, copy machine paper, AA batteries, gas cards.

Mount Vernon Campus - Play "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" - Feb. 25, 26, 27 ~ March 4, 5, 6


The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee runs Feb. 25, 26, 27 and March 4, 5, and 6. Fri and Sat. shows are at 7:30 and Sunday shows are at 3. Phillip Tarro Theatre. Free for SVC students, $10 general admission and $7 for non- SVC students, seniors and SVC faculty.

Mount Vernon Campus - Social Security 101 - Feb. 11


On behalf of the Social Security Administration and Human Resources we are inviting you to attend a presentation by the Social Security Administration.

This event will be held at Angst Hall, Room 135 on Friday, February 11 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Kirk Larson, Western Washington Public Affairs Specialist for the Social Security Administration, will reveal all you need to know about Social Security.

Larson will talk about retirement benefits and eligibility, early retirement and how it effects your benefits, and more.

Larson has worked with the agency for over 18 years in both technical and managerial roles. Kirk has presented Social Security information in both the Seattle and San Francisco Regions. He has had several articles published, and has appeared on TV and Radio shows to discuss various Social Security issues. The Social Security Administration and other Federal Government organizations have recognized him for his outstanding public service. Kirk has a degree in Business Administration from California Polytechnic University at Pomona.

Mount Vernon Campus - "We Live Here!" Premiere - Feb. 07


This heartwarming new film reveals how local youth, who identify as LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning), share their stories of family life, school life, bullying, relationships, and growing up.

Join us for the first public showing of “We Live Here” on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the Skagit Valley College Multipurpose Room.

This short film is not to be missed, and will be followed up a Q&A speaker panel featuring the youth involved in the project.
